50 Cent Gets Time With His Son
In the continuing battle between 50 Cent and his son’s mother, Shaniqua Tompkins, a judge ruled today 50 Cent can have temporary visitation every other weekend. The child will have to be dropped off a police station in Queens where he will then be picked up by Fifty’s mother or driver, which will keep the parents separated from each other. A custody trial will take place on October 22nd.
Tensions still remain high between the two since someone set fire to a mansion owned by 50 Cent but lived in by Tompkins. At the time of the fire the son and Tompkins were treated for smoke inhalation and Tompkins claimed Mr. Cent threatened her life and was responsible for destroying the home. Tompkins claims it was in retaliation for a lawsuit against 50 Cent for half of his fortune. He is now suing her for defamation.
Fifty has asked for limited visitation due to his and the child’s schedule. Not wanting to interfere with regularly scheduled activities, he would like to have every other weekend and a month in the summer. The judge in this case will decide in October if this arrangement is in the best interest of the child.
The visitation issue is faced by a lot of parents who live in a different state than their child. As the child grows older and becomes more involved with school and activities, it is difficult for the out of state parent to balance spending time with the child without making the child resentful that they are missing time with their friends, or their practices and games. There is also the issue of the expense the out of state parent incurs when visiting the child, which can get pricey when you add up the cost of airplane tickets, hotels and meals one or two weekends a month. In Georgia, the cost of travel expenses for visitation is one of the items considered for a deviation from the presumed amount of child support.
