Another Trump Divorce

No, it’s not the The Donald, it’s his brother Robert and wife Blaine who are headed to divorce court. The Trumps officially separated in October of 2007, and according to news reports at that time, Blaine released a statement saying she had hoped for a reconciliation but it would not be possible because Robert had been living on Long Island with another woman for some time.

The Trumps have been married for nearly 25 years but do not have any children. Blaine Trump has a son from a previous marriage. It has also been reported the couple do not have a prenuptial agreement.

In 2007, the couple had planned to reach a settlement without having a full-blown, Trump-style divorce. However, Blaine has now hired Robert Cohen (who recently represented Christie Brinkley) and it now looks as if there will be a divorce proceeding.

According to the NY Post, “They can’t reach an amicable divorce settlement,” an insider told us. “Robert refused to turn over financial information and Blaine has finally run out of patience. It’s headed to court.” She has filed for divorce in Manhattan Supreme Court and this could certainly get ugly before it’s over.

It’s standard procedure in most divorce cases to exchange discovery, meaning one party sends the other party interrogatories, which are questions they want answered, and requests for production of documents, which are copies of documents they want. Often times if one party does not turn over the requested documents, the requesting party will simply subpoena the bank or financial company that holds the documents they are interested in. Of course, to do that, you have to know what banks or financial company to subpoena. Courts are not usually amused by a party not being forthcoming with information that the other party is entitled to and may sanction the nonresponsive party by requiring them to pay attorney fees.
