Jodie Sweetin Loses Visitation Rights
Full House star, Jodie Sweetin, lost the right to see her child without supervision today. The child’s father, Cody Herpin, asked the court in an emergency hearing today to require Sweetin’s vistation with their child be supervised based on Sweetin allegedly driving intoxicated with their child in the car. Sweetin had filed for divorce to end their 16 month marriage.
Sweetin has admitted to being an alcoholic and meth addict. The judge heard testimony from a doctor that Sweetin has fallen off the wagon but had been in touch with her sponsor and he did not think the child was in danger. The judge ordered that Sweetin can not have visitation with the child unless it is supervised by one of her parents. Sweetin is currently living with her parents.
The judge also ruled both parents would have to submit to drug screening before the next hearing.
Supervised visitation is often used in cases where a parent has an issue with drugs and/or alcohol. If a parent does not have relatives that are willing and able to supervise visitation, there are professional supervisors that can be hired for a fee. Although more expensive, a paid supervisor has the advantage of being a neutral party and their testimony can be more reliable than that of a relative. A judge will also often order the parent ot submit to random drug and/or alcohol testing for a period of time so as to ensure that the parent is staying clean and sober.
