Judge in Dash Case Issues Warrant

Linda Williams, the mother of Damon Dash’s sixteen year old son, failed to appear in court on Monday and did not return the child to his father. Now she faces possible jail time. New York judge Susan Knipps issued a warrant after Williams defied last week’s court order to return her son. Allegedly, Williams has enrolled the child in another school and wants the child to come and live with her. However, the judge in the case has ruled Dash will retain sole custody in the case.

Williams claims Dash has failed to provide electricity, a driver, or running water for their son. Dash denies the claims but certainly has his share of money troubles. He recently lost his shoe company and his Manhattan apartment is in foreclosure.

Williams has no doubt lost a lot of credibility with the court by refusing to obey the court, and by not returning her son to his father. In civil cases, the court has the power to jail a person they find in contempt. The key is you have to prove that the party is in willful contempt, meaning they have the means to comply with the court order, they are just refusing to do so.
