Sweetin and Husband to Settle?
Jodi Sweetin, former Full House child star, and her husband, Cody Herpin, are working on a custody agreement, according to People. Sweetin filed for a legal separation in November and her husband responded with his own filing requesting sole custody of their child. The couple attended mediation this week and the actress’s lawyer tells People:
“They’re trying to work things out regarding the sharing of their child,” attorney Wilma Presley says. “As far as reconciliation as a couple goes, in family law, you just never know.” Presley adds, “Jodie is doing very well. She had a very nice Christmas. She had her daughter on Christmas Eve and morning, and so far, the sharing has been smooth. There haven’t been complaints from either side.”
Sweetin, who has admitted to being addicted to meth and alcohol, says she is in a 12-step recovery. She also says although she had a couple of glasses of wine during the holidays, she has not relapsed. The couple have another hearing scheduled in February.
In Georgia, most courts will order a couple to attend mediation prior to setting the matter down for a final hearing. Mediation is a forum for both parties to try to settle their issues with the help of a neutral person, the mediator. Often the mediator is an attorney who has experience in the area of law that is the subject of the litigation. Some counties, such as Dekalb and Fulton, offer a set amount of hours with a mediator for free. Otherwise, the parties must pay the mediator on an hourly basis.
