TI To Pay More Child Support

A judge ordered rapper TI, AKA Clifford Harris, to pay additional child support to the mother of two of his sons. LaShon Dixon will now receive $3000 a month, which is $1000 more than she received before the ruling. TI will also continue to pay for the children’s uninsured medical expenses, extracurricular activities and private school education.

The lawyer representing Dixon commented she was happy for the additional support but it was still not enough. According to the AP, attorney Randy Kessler said, “She was just getting by with the children, while they lived a different life with their father. It can’t be complete opposites on the other side.” Reportedly, the boys had spent nearly 40% of their time with their father.

The judge in the case awarded Dixon primary physical custody of the two boys but both parents will share joint legal custody.

TI also has two other children with his fiance, Tameka Cottle.

There has been a trend in recent years to downsize the child support payments wealthy parents have had to pay to the custodial parent of their child, particularly in situations where the custodial parent does not work and the child support is their only source of income. The Georgia child support guidelines are an income shares model that bases the support obligation on the income of both parents. There are also deviations for expenses such as daycare, private school tuition, and the payment of health insurance for the child. Although there is no set formula to account for the time that the noncustodial parent spends with the child, it is something that the court can consider at it’s discretion when determining child support.
